FLORIDA, August 27 2007, (Arabisto.com):
Angelina Jolie has landed in Syria and travelled to Iraq in her role as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.
The UNHCH is reporting that she left New York and flew to Syria on Monday landing in Damascus to visit with Iraqi refugees there.
On Tuesday Jolie crossed into Iraq to visit 1,200 refugees trapped in a makeshift camp at the border, unable to flee Iraq, and later watched scores of Iraqis crossing into Syria at a border checkpoint the UNHCH stated. She also recognized Syria for its open borders and generosity to Iraqis.
"I have come to Syria and Iraq to help draw attention to this humanitarian crisis and to urge governments to increase their support for UNHCR and its partners," Jolie said. "My sole purpose in both countries is to highlight the humanitarian plight of those uprooted by the war in Iraq."
Here's a photo of Angelina Jolie meeting with an Iraqi woman from the AFP.

I wonder if Jolie will be visiting any of the orphanages. She seems to have a soft spot for children living without parents in war torn countries - could she be adopting a little Iraqi child?
Jolie has already adopted two children from Cambodia and one from Ethiopia. I am sure a child from the Middle East too isn't far behind.
As an aside, last May Jolie and Brad Pitt donated $1 million towards the humanitarian effort assisting millions of people affected by the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region.
